Are all your spices gluten-free?
Yes, and no. Please read carefully, especially if you are celiac.

We don't use any gluten-based fillers in our spices or blends. We do test for gluten and validate the results at a third-party laboratory, in addition to maintaining levels at <20ppm for the good majority of our products and ingredients (over 300 of them!). We do package 1 product that contains wheat/gluten (the Zaatar Dukka) in the same facility and on the same production line. Nevertheless, we have strict anti-cross contamination measures in place, which are third party validated throughout the year. You can always use the filters on our site on the product page for different nutritional info!

Our products are 100% plant-based. Clean, Natural, Non-GMO, Filler-free, Soy-free, Dairy-free, Nut & Peanut-free, Vegan & Vegetarian friendly.
What allergens do you handle in your facility and are they always declared?
YES. All allergens are always declared. Please read the ingredients list available at the bottom of product description. When on any specific product page, click “Read more” to view the full list of 100% transparent ingredients followed by the allergen declaration statement.
The only allergens that are present in our facility are:

No. We're happy to say that all our products are nut and peanut-free. We have very strict anti-cross-contamination measures in place and a nut/peanut-free policy.
Do any of our products contain soy?
No. We're happy to say that our products are soy-free.
Do you offer salt-free seasonings? Are your products suitable for low sodium diets?

What are fillers? Do you use any of them in your spices or seasonings?
No, we do not use any kind of fillers in our blends, and they will never be part of our products.

If it’s in the product, it’s because it’s a necessity, and we’ve done our research to procure the cleanest possible natural option out there to achieve the desired outcome and flavour!

Fillers are commonly used in spices and seasonings for various reasons, but primarily to cut costs by increasing the volume, density or weight of the final product. This affects both raw materials, whole (yes, whole too) and ground, as well as premixed seasonings and blends. Cheap salts, sugars, preservatives and other chemicals, wheat and wheat byproducts, other cheap grains, wood chips, synthetic products, olive tree leaves (believe it or not, that’s what is used to adulterate oregano leaves), empty or low quality pepper shells in addition to products like MSG, that not only act to weigh down products, but also compensate for and enhance your perception of flavour. Doesn’t that suck?

Unfortunately, some of these practices are widespread and in some cases, the fillers or adulterated products are hard to distinguish not to mention are undeclared :(

We lab test both our raw materials and finished products at a 3rd party laboratory, validate any claims, and have a reliable network of suppliers of premium raw materials with whom we’ve forged strong relationships over time.
Do your blends contain MSG (Monosodium Glutamate), GMO’s, artificial colours, preservatives or similar?
No. None of our products contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), GMOs (genetically modified organisms), artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or similar unwanted ingredients.

Although we do understand the purpose of MSG and how glutamates function, especially when it comes to enhancing taste and flavour as well as exposing our 5th taste, we choose not to go down that route and totally exclude it from our products. Instead of filling our blends with cheaper salt, sugar and flavour enhancers like MSG, which would allow us to drastically cut on costs, we have chosen health first and prefer to stick to our philosophy and mission of delivering clean, easy-to-use and premium quality seasonings right to your doorstep, the whole compromise-free.
Are all your ingredients and products Non-GMO?
Yes. All our spices, herbs and seasonings are GMO-free. We continue our commitment to create value for our customers by developing a wide variety of Non-GMO seasonings.

We do our best to package every box with absolute love, care and attention. However, sometimes glass jars break in transport, a thing which is beyond our control.

Please don't be mad and give us a chance to make it right for you! Send us a picture of your broken jar immediately upon receipt of your order, full name as well as order number, and we will ship you a free replacement the next business day!
I received the wrong product, what are my options?
We do our best to pick and pack every box with absolute love, care and attention. However, sometimes humans make errors, as rare as those incidents may be at A Spice Affair!

Please email us immediately upon receipt of your order and be sure to include your full name, order number as well as a description of the issue, and one of our team members will arrange to send you a free replacement in addition to arranging the free exchange with you within 1-2 business days!
What is your return policy?
Yes, you may return the unopened spices for full refund, however we unfortunately do not cover return fees unless otherwise specified.

Do you offer your products in bulk for industrial or manufacturing use and can you customize them?
Yes! We offer products in sizes ranging from 1 kg (2.2 lbs) all the way to 25 kg (55 lbs). Whether it’s for one of our own existing seasonings, your own recipe or even a brand-new concoction, our expertise in creating extraordinary natural seasonings is where we truly shine.

Can I place an order for pickup at your store?
Yes of course, we accept pick-ups at our location :)

Our address is in Lachine and we offer pick-ups Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. Place your order online and at check out, change the “ship to” option and select “Pick up” as the “Delivery method”. Once the order is ready for pickup, you will receive a notification. It usually takes up to 24 hours to be ready.
Can I place an order for pickup at your store?
Yes, we love co-branding, but can also do private labels subject that certain MOQs are achieved. We have 8 different types of packaging in various materials, sizes, forms and shapes! We've worked with banks, universities, real estate agents, large and small corporations as well as gift basket companies to tailor products to their needs. We can co-brand or private label promotional gifts. Get in touch and inquire about our minimums and available packaging options!

Our R&D department can help you create a new blend or simply provide one of our own in a type of packaging that will delight! We’re quick, versatile and put you as our priority at all times. Our facility is third-party audited, so you can rest well selling your newly branded, delicious seasonings knowing we’ve done all the hard food safety work!
Do you offer your products in bulk for industrial or manufacturing use and can you customize them?
Yes! We offer products in sizes ranging from 1 kg (2.2 lbs) all the way to 25 kg (55 lbs). Whether it’s for one of our own existing seasonings, your own recipe or even a brand-new concoction, our expertise in creating extraordinary natural seasonings is where we truly shine.

How long will my spices last?
Generally, our products are best consumed within 3 years, but don't really expire.

Once opened, the potency/life expectancy will be affected by how you store the jar. If kept tightly closed, away from humidity and direct light, then you can use them for up to 3 years! Exposure to light may create discolouration over time. Shake your jar and see some of that colour come back to life!

Our seasonings don’t contain anti-caking agents (chemicals) so clumping may occur in some blends. Simply take any solid object such as a knife, a spatula, a spoon or a fork, and break down with a big smile, you are eating clean foods after all! You can also shake the jar hard enough to break down any clumping and restore the product to its original form.
What’s the expiry date of my product?
Our jars have a lot (or batch) number on them that helps us identify when they were produced. Generally, our blends and products have a high turnover and are produced in quantities that don’t spend too much time in our storage or warehouse. This allows us to only produce what is needed in the short term, which allows the products to stay as fresh as possible.

Need to know when your jar was produced? Read the last 4 digits on your lot number (from left to right) as follows:
Example: Lot# 504010013002
1st digit: YEAR ex. 2023 = 3, 2024 = 4
2nd-4th digit = DAY OF YEAR (based on the Julian Calendar) ex. 002 = January 02, 035 = February 4
In this example, the date of production is January 02, 2023.

What’s the best way to store my spices and herbs?
The ideal conditions to store spices and extend their life while preserving the flavour, colour, potency and fragrance is to keep them in airtight containers stored in dry, dark and cool place with limited exposure to sunlight (or other sources of light), moisture, and heat.
Can I store spices in a refrigerator or freezer?
We do not recommend storing spices in the freezer. Freezing does not extend the shelf life of spices and humidity can cause the flavour of various spices to alter, which can accelerate loss of aroma and even lead to grow mould or bacteria. It will also greatly contribute to clumping and in some cases a total degradation of the product due to condensation on the glass jars.

Remember, humidity and moisture are spices #1 enemy!
